We’ve all heard the saying “If people aren’t laughing at your goals then they aren’t big enough.” And, have you ever stopped and really thought about what that means? Better question-why set goals? Just to hit them, and say we hit them? NO!!! Goals are set to push us to become better versions of ourselves. I could set a goal to help 1 family find their dream house before the end of the year; and I would hit that goal fairly quickly. What then? Sit on my hands? So, what is the point of having that goal? What if instead, I set a goal of helping 10 families before December 31st. Now all of the sudden I’m stretching myself; and the world is a better place because of it. A great example of this is this years' Kentucky Wildcats football team. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that we would play for the SEC East title I would have laughed at you; no joke. And I am a die hard UK fan. But, these men believed it! And they went after it! Did they short? Yes. Yet, again, if you would have told me that this team would have a shot at 8+ wins this year I would’ve said “HELL YES!!!” The goal of winning the SEC East pushed them to better themselves and achieve a higher level than previously thought possible. Think about this for a minute: up until the loss to Georgia, UK had 2 players in the top 15 for Heisman candidates. 2!!! That’s insane! All because the team set a goal and went out to hit it. Sounds powerful to me. So, how do you set goals? Why do you set goals? Just to set them? Just to hit them? Are you doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to hit them? Or just going through the motions? When used the right way, goals can take us from a good version of ourselves to the best version of ourselves. So….what is your goal for 2019?
