In sports, 11 in a row can be a good thing and a bad thing depending on the context of the scenario. It could mean that your team is headed for a a national championship or the laughing stock of all jokes. In the case of my fanship, being a University of Tennessee fan, it meant that the Vols hadn’t won an SEC game in 11 straight tries. (I was always the one being laughed at for the record.) Eleven conference matchups and my poor team hadn’t won a conference game since 2016. Do you know how hard it is to be a fan of a team that goes an entire year and doesn’t win a single game inside of its conference? It sucks.... really bad. Countless hours were spent listening mindlessly to radio shows about what it would take to fix the team and how they would improve with the new coach. College football is undoubtedly my favorite sport to watch and cheer for and the Vols have a special place in my heart, so watching them be not-so-great for the last decade hasn’t been an easy pill to swallow. (Especially spending four of those years graduating from UK.)
The tide has turned!! After a tumultuous off season of a coaching hire and a shaky start to the season. The Vols have finally broke the seal and etched their first SEC win since beating Missouri in 2016 (a game that I was at with my girlfriend as a birthday present). Never did I think I would have to wait until October 2 years later to see them win their next conference game. But let me tell ya, Saturday at noon in Auburn, AL was totally worth the wait. Watching a team that has struggled so much so early, be able to pull it together and win a matchup against an SEC west opponent on the road was more than fulfilling and I'm hopeful of what is to come. Like anything that is good, it requires patience and hard work. I am happy to see my favorite team headed in the right direction and hopefully beginning to return to the dynasty they were in the 90’s! Go Vols!
